Export a ChatGPT conversation to Word
To get a ChatGPT chat into Word, open it, choose Word in the MarkMyChat panel and click Export. You get a .doc file with headings, bullet lists and tables already formatted, ready to open in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice. Copy-paste works too, but it brings the chat page styling with it.
With MarkMyChat (about 10 seconds)
- Open the chat on chatgpt.com.
- In the MarkMyChat panel pick Word.
- Click Export. Open the .doc file in Word or upload it to Google Docs.
The manual way (copy and paste)
- Click the copy icon under one ChatGPT answer.
- In Word, use Paste > Keep Text Only, or paste normally and clear formatting.
- Repeat for every answer, then add your questions by hand.
The catch: One answer at a time, your own prompts are not included, and pasted tables and code often need fixing.
Tips
- The file has no hidden styling, so it takes your Word theme cleanly.
- Need .docx? Open the file in Word and use Save As > Word Document.
- For notes apps (Obsidian, Notion) use Markdown instead.
